EX-rank’s Replay (90)

Translator: Wan ED/PR: Personal Ghost

24. 2 days without night (4)

Jeok-ho committed a mortal sin and was tied to the Red Rack.

While being like that, Jeok-ho came to bear an abnormal status called ‘Foreseen Hell’ to cover up for Kim Sinrok.

What bothered me was what kind of incident Kim Sinrok had.

Baek Ho-gun didn’t reply straight away.

‘No way, is the incident that he had so big that it’s difficult to speak about?’

Baek Ho-gun was a person of few words, but he wasn’t the type who would beat around the bush like this.

“If it is difficult to speak about, then don’t do it.”

“It’s not difficult.”

It’s not related to speaking?

If so, then why is Baek Ho-gun like this?

“Among numerous incidents that child had, I don’t know where I should start.”

Baek Ho-gun calls Kim Sinrok ‘that child’, huh?

Both of them were more than 5 thousand years old, and the age gap shouldn’t be more than a few decades.

I guess a descendant will look like a child regardless of age.

“I want to hear everything if possible.”

“It will take a long time to talk about everything.”

I guess Kim Sinrok had many more accidents than I thought.

“It’s fine even if it takes a bit long.”

“Even if told concisely, it would take days.”

… I guess Kim Sinrok had far more accidents than I thought.

I was curious what kinds of incidents they were, but today I decided to hear about only one.

“I want to hear about the incident which became an opportunity for Heavenly God to put constraints on Jeok-ho.”

“Got it.”

Baek Ho-gun talked with a calm voice.

Jeok-ho and Ungnyeo of Grief, those two’s short marriage ended leaving a descendant.

At that time, opinions over disposing of Kim Sinrok were divided, even among the Ho tribe.

However, because Jeok-ho volunteered to be tied to the Red Rack and then his friends, the Mythological category Ho tribe members: Baek-ho, Hwang-ho and Cheong-ho, those three stood up for Kim Sinrok, and said they accept him as the Ho tribe’s descendant.

‘At the time Cheong-ho was still remaining, huh?’

Kim Sinrok grew up believing he is a Jin.

Kim Sinrok was a troublemaker who was difficult even for the Ho tribe to deal with, but he was a talented genius, better than decent Ho tribe members.

He couldn’t match the Mythological category Ho tribe members, but he was much more outstanding than the Ho tribe members of the lower ‘categories’.

“He really resembled Jeok-ho when he was younger. He was a clever and bold child.”

Then on a certain day, Kim Sinrok awakened his power and realized he isn’t a Jin but a descendant.

In a short period of time, he figured out the identities of his parents and where Jeok-ho is.

Kim Sinrok found the Red Rack and saw Jeok-ho’s miserable state.

Seeing Jeok-ho’s body covered in scars and injuries, Kim Sinrok had an incident.

“Kim Sinrok used the Ho tribe’s divine treasure on Jeok-ho.”

Ho tribe’s divine treasure?

I recalled an item which was only mentioned in a description in the setting book.

Thinking ‘no way’, I asked:

“Isn’t it a UR or higher rank item which is produced in the divine realm about once for every one thousand years?”

“Correct. It didn’t come out for the last two thousand years.”

Kim Sinrok had a bigger incident than I thought.

“After Jeok-ho tied his body, which healed and strengthened with the divine treasure, to the Red Rack again, he begged Heavenly God for a heavy constraint to cover for Kim Sinrok.”

When Jeok-ho went to such lengths, it was said that even the Ho tribe didn’t rebuke Kim Sinrok any more.

As a result of Kim Sinrok’s actions, Jeok-ho bore a heavier punishment.

‘Kim Sinrok…’

I remembered Kim Sinrok’s expression that didn’t look human and had a gloomy appearance.

He didn’t easily resemble the troublemaker and clever child Baek Ho-gun was talking about.

I wonder if such incidents were triggers for Kim Sinrok’s change?

‘Kim Sinrok doesn’t call Jeok-ho ‘father’, but ‘Jeokho-nim’ and speaks to him formally.’

Considering the background situation, it may be natural to draw a line between each other and live like this, but if I think about Kim Sinrok who went as far as stealing the divine treasure, it doesn’t seem like he hates his father.

‘Jeok-ho said not to inform Kim Sinrok, but…’

As a basis, I was on the Playable Characters’ side in this world.

At the times when the two sides aren’t Playable Characters, I can only choose the side which I feel closer to emotionally.

I was never a father, but I was a son, so I wanted to hold Kim Sinrok’s hand.

‘Let’s inform teacher Kim Sinrok-nim.’

Jeok-ho prohibited it, but the target was only Hwang Jiho.

I immediately wrote the device message and sent it to Kim Sinrok.

“Jo Uisin, that expression…”

When I successfully sent it, Baek Ho-gun spoke up.

No way, will my last Playable Character also make a sound saying that I look suspicious?

“…”

Baek Ho-gun turned his head away.

‘Was Baek Ho-gun about to say something, but I was so suspicious that he couldn’t?!’

I was shocked.

Keuung…

I guess at a certain moment me and Baek Ho-gun stopped walking.

Snare leaned against my knees asking to be hugged if we aren’t going to walk.

I started to walk again, but I decided to hold Snare in my arms.

My shocked mind was stabilized.

***

My dormitory room.

Compared to Hwang Myeong-ho’s mansion, the cramped room seemed weirdly spacious.

I felt the pang of loneliness anew.

Before I was struck with trivial thoughts, I activated the device and unfolded a hologram.

The first to check was the chat room with Kim Sinrok.

‘The message sent to Kim Sinrok was marked as read.’

Kim Sinrok checked the message about Jeok-ho’s injury.

The reply didn’t come, but I didn’t plan on asking him what he was going to do.

I checked other chat rooms.

‘The group chat with Jang Namuk and Yu Sang-hun had the most messages piled up.’

Per my predictions, Jang Namuk had a luncheon with generals during the weekend and lost his soul.

[Jang Namuk] There were so many stars…

[Yu Sang-hun] ?

[Jang Namuk] On the left, on the right, all stars…

[Yu Sang-hun] are you crazy?

I was curious how many generals attended, but I didn’t ask for Jang Namuk’s shattered mentality.

Next to check was Eungwang School’s web community’s general bulletin board.

‘I’m curious about the 2nd year and 3rd year class 0’s Teacher’s Day’s epilogue.’

Teacher’s Day’s epilogues came up on the general bulletin board one after another.

But no matter how much I searched, I didn’t see the epilogue of the class 0’s seniors.

Rather, another post caught my eye.

‘What, so many comments under the post… It’s our class epilogue!’

Among numerous Teacher’s Day’s epilogues, the post with most comments was our 1st year class 0’s epilogue.

The poster was the talented president of the 1st year class 0, Kim Yuri.

‘Kim Yuri wrote an epilogue, huh? But why are there so many comments?’

After checking the post, I saw the pictures of the flower basket and refreshments chosen by our class children.

They were prepared with great consideration, but compared to other classes’ fantastic events, it was ordinary.

‘Did it become a hot topic, because it’s too ordinary? Even so, it’s weird.’

I scrolled some more and saw the answer.

‘Ah, it’s because of that, huh?’

Among the pictures attached to the epilogue, was the photo of wild carnations painting made by Min Geurin.

The picture of that painting, currently hanging on the wall of 1st year class 0’s classroom came up.

The content of almost all comments was related to Min Geurin’s carnations painting.

[Shock, it’s so well done.]

[Unknown painting slaps painter Hong Gyeongbok-nim on the cheek *shivers*]

[1st year class 0 plays amazingly nice… I, who waited for a crazy epilogue and clicked it, am ashamed of myself now.]

I was filled with pride seeing my Playable Character’s painting receiving praises.

But the praises continued for a moment only.

In recent comments, people who were said to know a bit about art swarmed and started to each say a word.

[I suddenly smell the prodigy painter Min Geurin-nim.]

[Isn’t it just like Min Geurin’s style? The brush pressure and brush strokes are all the same. Isn’t it rather like a copy?]

[Painter Min Geurin wasn’t active for quite some time because of the private situation, but she is well known among people who know a bit about oriental paintings. If this is plagiarism, please reveal it.]

[What a sloppy copy of Min Geurin’s paintings]

[I know quite a bit about painter Min’s paintings, but to call such a sloppy painting an imitation is a bit… ^^”]

[Why did you put a plagiarized drawing? The 1st years shot themselves in the foot *tut tut*]

Amidst the pouring criticism, there also existed Eungwang School’s students, graduates and school staff who put up a shield.

Soon a keyboard battle broke out between people putting up a shield and intellectuals.

[The 1st year kids just gave their teacher carnations, what you had to talk like this for? The scholars are getting philosophical; [1]]

[If you just say something, they call you out as scholar *tut tut* That’s why our country isn’t doing great.]

[I’m one of the teachers. I’m always thankful for the docile students of the 1st year class 0. I ask for it at least until the 3rd year class 0 guys graduate. I’m clicking recommend.]

[Wing Council’s member. This year 1st year class 0 is extremely nice. Not even one thing was broken in the 1st year facilities. This the first such miracle in the history of the Wings Council. Are you going to be responsible if those kids get crooked after your malicious attacks? If the dormitory is broken, I’m going to find you crooks and beat you up.]

[Crazy, are you saying that we should leave plagiarism alone because your face and dormitory may be destroyed? In my time they said…]

[One vote that those geezers are graduates or employees on soon ending contracts. It has nothing to do with them, so I guess they can say anything, regardless of if the class 0 turns black or not.]

[Intellectuals, are you burning? hehe There is so much anger in your body huh? Are you also permanently expelled Players? Even among Eungwang School graduates was a Fantasy worm. Hoxy…]

[No, sirs. Can’t people just give carnations on Teacher’s Day, why are you going crazy?]

It turned into a battlefield with more than a hundred comments.

‘Plagiarism and what not, it was painted by Min Geurin herself.’

It would be difficult to imagine that the genius, who left a mark in the Art world, was in the Player special highschool and what more in the class 0.

Among the comments I was scrolling for a while, I saw a comment marked as ‘Author’.

[Permission to disclose received! The carnations painting is the work of painter Min Geurin-nim and Geurin is in our class ^▽^♡]

With Kim Yuri’s simple comment, the mood flipped over.

[?]

[Shock…]

[No way, it’s her hahahah]

[Why did painter Min Geurin go there?]

[Intellectuals shut up hahaha]

[You have to be careful when you put a comment because things like this, huh? Heh Did the guy who said it’s the copy or something is going to sleep because of embarrassment?]

[(refreshing content)]

[I’m looking for the villainous expert who commented that it’s a too sloppy plagiarism of Min Geurin.]

With Kim Yuri’s clarification, the mood completely cooled down.

Even so, there were guys fighting over useless matters like before.

[Art Club president here. Come to us, please. Sincerely please.]

[↑ Oriental Painting Small Group president. Ignore the above comment and come to us please!]

[↑ ↑ I sent a message to your device right now, sir. Check it Fxxx you]

[↑ ↑ ↑ Hate it Fxxxxxx you]

People assumed to be from the Art Club and Oriental Painting Small Group flocked in.

Hundreds of new comments were posted again, turning the atmosphere into a mess, but beside their own league, it didn’t draw particular attention of others.

‘They may invade our class next week, so I should discuss the future with Kim Yuri.’

It seemed that Yu Sang-hui was working hard to control the art clubs’ disputes.

I could roughly figure out how it was going, seeing the pages of comments.

When I closed the general bulletin board, a new message came up in the group chatroom for the Newspaper Club freshmen.

[Mun Saeron] I’m going to the Association with teacher Jegal-nim.

[Mun Saeron] I may have to destroy all the material I gathered about 2nd year class 0 ㅠㅠ

[Mun Saeron] I’m going to start with the materials I sent in the chatroom first. I think it will be better if people who downloaded them also delete them.

What the hell did 2nd year class 0 do?!

It seemed they had an accident big enough for the Association to interfere.

‘I’m also worried about 3rd year class 0.’

There was no way that the attention seekers, who openly sent a challenge on the day before the Teacher’s Day, didn’t publish an epilogue.

‘They seemed to love attention enough to make the public surrender a penalty. Why didn’t they publish an epilogue?’

There was also no post about witnessing Im Yeonhwa or 3rd year class 0 declaring surrender in front of the main gate clock tower.

‘No way!’ a thought crossed my mind.

‘The match is still ongoing!’

Currently it is Sunday night.

The match likely started on Teacher’s Day, Friday.

Even now, the 3rd year class 0 may be having a match with Im Yeonhwa somewhere for 2 nights and 3 days, no, 3 days without night.

‘It will be Monday soon, so it will be one more day.’

I guess I’ll wait for the publishing of the epilogue tomorrow.

There were still a few hours left until Monday and the start of the working week again.

‘There are many things to prepare.’

On the weekend, the boat party tied with the Don tribe was waiting, so I also have to prepare for that.

However, there was an important event waiting before that.

My eyes turned to the untouched chess set, still unwrapped and left beside the bed.

Next week, a school chess match was held.

[1] The scholars are getting philosophical; – my brain is still a bit dead after translating those comments, so excuse me if this explanation is bullshit.

First scholars and intellectuals, as you probably figured out already, is just slang for snobbish people, acting like they know everything. The raws exact phrase is something like: ‘The scholars are going insane’. Also keyboards warriors are sometimes called that.

As for ; at the end… I just can’t figure out what it means. Is it a shorthand for something like ^^; or other sweating emojis? I have truly no idea.

Translator’s note: Kim Sinrok ㅠㅠ You unlucky kid…

Did you see a mistake? 🐞

I wonder what is Jo uisin’s suspicious face look like? (●__●)?

Thanks again for the translation and. The chapter (。・ω・。)ノ♡

    1. Thank you for reading again ^^

  2. Kim Sinrok is a poor kid, but at least he’s got a loving parent.
It’s sad that they do not call each other father and son though…

    1. That’s even saddest, because if the events went just a little bit different they would be the happiest family out there.

  3. no difficult theory crafting today.

Is “Hoxy” slang for something? Thanks for the chapter! ~5000 years gives you plenty of time for shenanigans, huh? Just a little question: was Joek-ho always tied to the rack all the time, after causing problems with the Ung tribe? If he was always tied to the rack, did Kim Sinrok not know who his parents were?

    1. Late reply, sorry.

Yeah, hoxy is a slang for ‘perhaps, by any chance…’ etc.

Jeok-ho and Kim Sinrok story is… complicated. It’s yes and no in some sense.

  5. the comments are hilarious, thank you for going through the troubles of translating them! I had a good laugh XD

    1. I’m happy to hear that~!

As far as I remember, ; in Korean can mean embarassment (it was probably something like ;-; originally?)

    1. Yeah, I believe it’s something like this. It would make sense considering Koreans tendency to shorten anything they possibly can. I wouldn’t be surprised if they shorten emojis.

  7. i’m honestly left speechless by the novel each chapter, what am I supposed to say if my mind goes blank from shock each day??
    Thank you for the chapter!

    1. Staring in awe is also a feat.

      Thanks for reading <3

  8. Uisin… I really think you and Kim Sinrok have more similarities that you think. Thinking about them makes me really emotional.
