EX-rank’s Replay (296)

Translator: Wan ED/PR: Personal Ghost

51. Student representative general election (4)

I was worried if the atmosphere wasn’t ruined by my wrong selection of the topic, but thanks to the conversation skills of my Playable Characters, who were considerate of their junior, the meal atmosphere was very good.

We had dinner at the seafood course dish restaurant.

The main dishes included seafood which suited Yeom Junyeol’s taste buds, and seasoning could be personally adjusted for Cheon Dong-ha, who didn’t particularly like spicy seasonings.

As the abalone baked in butter got a particularly good review, Yeom Junyeol and Cheon Dong-ha both revealed an intention to come visit again with their families.

After finishing the meal, there was no need for the two to come back to school, as they were day students, but to digest and talk more, they saw me off in front of the school.

“Then bye, stay careful.”

“I’ll be awaiting for the article.”

I made a resolution to make sure to write a good article for Yeom Junyeol and Cheon Dong-ha, while heading to the dormitory.

‘It’s still gray.’

My dormitory’s room.

Just after arriving in my room, I checked the ‘Replay’ function, without even opening the window.

When I used it on Yu Sang-hun the second time, the Replay became available to use again after a day, but Son Mingi wasn’t like that.

I tried to come up with a differences between Yu Sang-hun and Son Mingi to analyze the cause, but besides age and gender, there were almost no similarities.

I felt sorry for comparing Yu Sang-hun with such a nuclear trash.

‘I don’t know the reason for the existence of the time gap in reset.’

According to what Hwang Jiho said, Son Mingi woke up almost immediately after falling asleep that day.

He said that as if he had a horrible dream, he screamed and squirmed, but because there was no one to talk with Son Mingi, no matter how much he was watched and eavesdropped on, we couldn’t dig into it.

His maternal grandfather became Son Mingi’s guardian, but besides periodically bringing him a bowl of porridge with a straw, it seemed they didn’t have any mutual interactions.

Son Mingi stared at the device throughout the entire day, but there was also no one to talk to through a device.

He said that when Son Mingi opened the device, they checked from behind, and he sent a one-sided greeting to Yu Sang-hui, but Yu Sang-hui didn’t respond for a couple of weeks.

‘She said before that she was playing with him while pretending to hesitate.’

I had a guess with what kind of idea Son Mingi, who lost his arms and legs, clung to Yu Sang-hui, who had a healing superpower, so it felt unpleasant.

Though I couldn’t stop her, if Yu Sang-hui was relieving her stress, it nevertheless was good that she seemed to stop responding, as if she was tired of it now.

‘As it was decided they would contact Son Mingi’s grandfather and attach a doctor to him, I should wait for it.’

The plan was to attach a doctor from Hwang Myeong Group’s side to dig into him and make a superpower wave inspection, but I didn’t expect that the secret of the Replay would be revealed through the inspection.

I just wished the Replay’s function improved, even if just a bit.

‘If the phase doesn’t go up even if I keep using it on Son Mingi, should I use it on another character?’

I checked the grayed-out list, but there were almost no targets I would like to use it on.

The only ones I liked were bastards like the Fantasy Controversy’s Byeon Sunhoe or Choe Pyeondeuk.

‘For now let’s wait for it.’

I thought of confirming whether Replay rested or not every day, while closing the window.

Ding.

After I closed the window, I heard a device notification about a new message.

It was a message from Hong Gyubin, who was still working overtime.

[Hong Gyubin] Uisin-ah, thanks. Thanks to you, we completed the interrogation of that nurse officer.

Today Kim Sinrok was said to be dispatched to the Association, but Kim Sinrok brought results in one day?

Was it thanks to displaying a power of a descendant, who lived for five thousand years, or thanks to the buff of his father, who went with him.

It seemed there was a great chance it was both.

‘The matter was resolved well, but now I openly signaled that the Ho tribe and I have a cooperative relationship.’

Hong Gyubin would notice that the instant he saw me and Hwang Jiho together at the airport, but with this matter my and Ho tribe’s relationship was decisively confirmed.

[Hong Gyubin]… But that teacher Kim Sinrok-nim, He tortures with a pretty unique method, huh?

[Hong Gyubin] I saw Him with teacher Jegal-nim a few times… Um….

It seemed that Hong Gyubin witnessed Kim Sinrok’s bloody writing supplies torture.

Even so, there was no reason for a powerful teacher like Jegal Jaegeol to be tortured by Kim Sinrok, so I had no idea what he was uselessly worried about.

[Hong Gyubin] Anyhow, thanks to this we obtained the list of people, who instigated this matter. Because besides the list, the Regulation Enforcement Department got an additional testimony, we’re already confirming the new suspect.

[Hong Gyubin] This case will destroy one of TC Group’s factions.

I had some doubts about Hong Gyubin’s tone.

A message didn’t come for a while.

[Me] Team leader Hong Gyubin-nim?

When I asked back, the reply message came a little bit after that.

[Hong Gyubin] Uisin-ah, do you know that TC Group changed its name once?

It was an abrupt question, but I knew the answer.

It was an ordinary case for the great companies with long history to change their company names, which were usually in Hangul or hanja, to change them to the English initials.

It was because if it was difficult to pronounce if expressed in English, accessibility would drop, and it would be inconvenient in many ways.

‘I heard that ‘T’ in TC came from Tao’s surname, and ‘C’ came from a surname, which was difficult to pronounce for foreigners.’

[Me] Yes. I know they used our language like Ju-Oh Group and Hwang Myeong Group.

[Hong Gyubin] Then you would also know TC almost became a no. 1 Group in our country once, huh?

As Hong Gyubin said, there was a story that TC Group almost became the national no. 1 Group, before changing their name to TC Group.

As a company that was the first one to put their hands on the otherworld industry, TC Group hit a jackpot with an independent technological development.

Perhaps because of it, the founder, the existing executives and the major shareholders had a bloody battle for the Group’s shares and management rights, and they were the first ones to turn into bean powder[1].

[Me] Are You talking about the story just before the ‘T and C’s divorce lawsuit incident[2]’?

[Hong Gyubin] Yeah.

The ‘T and C’s divorce lawsuit’ was a representative example of the process of TC Group’s division.

As result of achieving the divorce lawsuit, the property division was made on a scale that would make a mark in history, and because the conflict structure was turned upside down a few times and the factions’ separation continued, the TC Group’s power was greatly twisted.

As a result the Group’s size was reduced, and ‘T’ or Tao family seized the leadership and became the TC Group of today.

As my thoughts got to this point, I guessed what Hong Gyubin meant.

Hong Gyubin bothered to mention that old story of TC Group, because of that ‘C’.

[Me] I guess this case is related to that ‘C’.

[Hong Gyubin] This side has no evidence. Even so, the executives involved in this case are more or less connected to the ‘C’.

Then though there was no evidence, there was some reason to connect them to the ‘C’?

As if noticing my doubts, Hong Gyubin sent an additional message.

[Hong Gyubin] In the past, those people often mentioned things in relation to the ‘C’. I also heard that they had exchanges. But as it was quite a long time ago, my words can’t serve as any proof.

I guess Hong Gyubin had exchanges with TC’s executives in the past.

And it was often.

[Hong Gyubin] I’ll contact you when I know more about this case.

Ending with this message, Hong Gyubin went to work again.

‘Ah, I should have asked about Hong Gyubin’s younger sister.’

Because it was a bit too much to ask Hong Gyubin, who was stuck overworking, about his younger sister, I decided to ask a different person.

Opportunely, this person was diligently spamming messages in the chat room I was a part of.

[Jang Namuk] Sanghun-ah, I enjoyed watching today’s game. But because the cheering squad had to usually face the cheering seat, I couldn’t see all of it.

[Yu Sang-hun] k

After that, the description of Jang Namuk’s feelings about the game continued for dozens of lines.

Jang Namuk wouldn’t have an ill will at all, but because he wrote such a long description about the lost game, Yu Sang-hun’s insides were probably exploding.

All messages were marked as read, but from a certain moment Yu Sang-hun didn’t even send a ‘k’.

But when Jang Namuk was giving a praise, while describing the cheering sequence presented by Yu Sang-hui, he typed in a ‘— —‘ emoticon, as if embarrassed.

[Jang Namuk] Then I’ll look forward to your performance tomorrow. I’ll also do my best to cheer.

[Yu Sang-hun] ㅎ

With the ending of the conversation, the chatroom became quiet.

‘It’s not quite right to ask about the younger sister here.’

As Yu Sang-hun didn’t know about Tao Sihu’s incident at all, I didn’t want to bother him for no reason a day before a match.

After short worries, I decided to send a 1 on 1 message to Jang Namuk.

[Me] There is something I want to ask.

[Me] Is there perhaps a female cadet with a surname Hong?

As the number of female cadets at the Military Academy’s Highschool Department was small, he probably would be able to answer this question without trouble.

[Jang Namuk] Not in our division.

Hong Gyubin’s younger sister wasn’t in the same division as Jang Namuk?

It was possible that stubborn-head, who secretly cooperated with Hong Gyubin to hand him over the nurse officer, wasn’t in the same division.

[Jang Namuk] Uisin-ah, is it a question related to the Sihu’s incident perhaps?

I couldn’t easily decide if it was okay to answer that or not.

Even so, it seemed there was a reason why Jang Namuk suddenly asked about it.

As it was related to Hong Gyubin’s younger sister’s safety, I decided to answer.

[Me] Yeah.

[Jang Namuk] Do you remember the kid, who operated the tiltrotor in the Jiri Mountain before?

I naturally remembered that.

Wasn’t it an oddball, who was previously in the research institute under the Ministry of Defense, who broke the otherworld simulator with a military shovel?

[Jang Namuk] In fact, in our division, that kid was the only one, who didn’t come to the exchange opening ceremony. Because she is particular, even if she acts separately, no one would think it was strange, but…

[Jang Namuk] The next morning after the exchange opening ceremony, she was dragged to the disciplinary room. There was no notice for the cadets about the reason, but no matter how I think about it, it seems connected to Sihu’s incident.

[Jang Namuk] That kid was said to arbitrarily hand over a soldier to the Association, so they would be talking about that nurse officer, who manipulated Sihu’s examination results, right?

The case of the nurse officer, who manipulated Tao Sihu’s examination results was treated as a secret, but I guess there was a person who gave a tip to the flag bearer Jang Namuk.

‘That’s certainly the younger sister.’

I was bothered that she didn’t use the surname Hong, but it was without a doubt her.

[Me] Yeah.

[Jang Namuk] … Is that so, huh?

[Me] Is she okay?

Jang Namuk gave me a long status report about Hong Gyubin’s younger sister.

[Jang Namuk] Because Gyu-yeon was in the Defense Ministry’s institute for a long time, and it’s ambiguous if she violated the school rules, she was released rather quickly.

[Jang Namuk] She is resting right now because of the aftereffects of being tied with the sealing tool used for superpowers.

[Jang Namuk] I’m going to check tomorrow if anything is wrong or is she hurt anywhere.

As Jang Namuk personally experienced getting tied with that superpower sealing tool and going to the disciplinary room, he would know what she would be going through right now.

After that Jang Namuk continued to pour lines of his worries about the other person.

‘But Jang Namuk’s message just now said ‘Gyu-yeon’.’

Hong Gyubin.

Gyu-yeon.

Their names were somehow similar.

It was an oddball from Jang Namuk’s division.

But there were no female cadets with the surname Hong in the same division as Jang Namuk.

After Jang Namuk calmed down, I asked to make sure.

[Me] The surname of that Gyu-yeon kid isn’t ‘Hong’?

[Jang Namuk] Uh? No.

[Jang Namuk] (link)

Jang Namuk attached a link.

As I pressed the link to check, it directed me to the Military School’s news materials page.

There was a picture of an award ceremony for the art contest organized by the Military Academy’s Highschool Department.

I saw the name and the picture of the cadet who won the grand prize for the first place.

[Grand prize Namkung Gyu-yeon]

Looking at the name and the picture centering on a female student, I thought I knew Hong Gyubin’s secret.

[1] bean powder — slang for ‘dysfunctional, not sticking together’.

[2] divorce lawsuit — divorce could also mean ‘a soul which left the body’ and lawsuit could also mean ‘burning an ancestral tablet and sending off the soul’.

Translator’s note: For a bean powder family, TC has some of the most clingy people out there, hehehe.

  1. Thats… True. Aside from Cheon Dongha, everyone young master is clingy XD … Wait, Dongha has shown a clingy tendency before too…

But… *looks at divorce lawsuit* its already common knowledge that divorce means separation, but like… Why do the words used for them in korean have this kind of rice cake. Author really is good in serving rice cakes. This is why one of the the popular sweets in this novel are rice cakes. (…I hope there’s nothing up with the To People the ones selling rice cakes)

Thanks for the chapter, Wan <3

    1. There is no not-clingy young master in this family… they’re all starved for affection.

Bad news. Rabbits make rice cakes because of the legend of rabbits pounding rice cakes on the moon and now that we know that moon holds some connection with ‘that kid’…

      Thank for reading, Nishicchi <3
