Chapter 69. Let’s catch the rat! (3)

[Good idea. When he was alive, he might have been tight-lipped, but now that he is probably dead, you can just use Darkness, and he will spill everything.]

Russell instantly recognized Lucion’s scheme.

Everyone becomes ghosts upon death.

Some go straight to heaven, but most of them stayed until they realized they were dead.

It was an ideal time to ask something.

“Hyung-nim. My apologies, but can I get off here? I want to see the face of that bastard Roberio, and I don’t think I can do anything even if I go to that place.”

Lucion asked Carson for permission.

The tunnels the Ratmen used would be empty by now, and though he was riding a carriage, Carson was unwilling to let him go there.

He didn’t say anything because it was Young Lady Tella’s request, but it showed in Carson’s expression.

“That would be probably better, huh?”

Carson agreed to Lucion’s suggestion without any worry.

‘Didn’t he agree a bit too quickly?’

Lucion felt slightly strange about it.

Tap tap.

Carson didn’t hesitate and knocked on the wall, giving the coachman the signal to stop a carriage.

Carson’s expression became softer.

“I’ll leave the carriage here. Don’t look at that bastard Roberio’s face too closely and don’t flee into the streets. Instead, return to the villa straight away.”

Carson told him, full of concern.

Since even in Cronia he had a track record of fleeing and bolting on a daily basis, Carson earnestly asked once again.

“You must not flee into the streets, and instead return to the villa.”

“Understood. I’ll return to the villa right away.”

Lucion was slightly offended by the continuous pleading, but it couldn’t be helped.

As he really kept fleeing like a lizard throwing away its tail.

“My apologies, Hyung-nim. I asked You, but…”

“No.”

Carson cut Lucion off.

“I never thought about it as a big deal, so think nothing of it.”

Carson left the carriage, and after him, Lucion also touched the ground.

“I’ll only leave the knight who was escorting you last time.”

“Yes. Understood.”

When Lucion turned his head, he met eyes with the knight.

[That is a gaze that says ‘Please, I beg You, don’t escape this time’.]

Russell understood what the knight’s gaze was saying when looking at Lucion.

— Can we leave the knight uncle behind and eat delicious chicken skewers later, like the last time? Latta can’t forget this taste.

He heard Latta flickered her tongue.

[Not today, probably.]

Russell glanced at Lucion and said.

There is no way that he was going to run away this time, right?

“I’ll go first.”

Carson wanted to emphasize it once more, but conscious of the gazes around, he took the knights and left first.

The only ones left were Hyum, the carriage and the knight.

Hyum walked up to Lucion without hesitation.

Though it was clearly said a little before they departed in the carriage, they were going to the tunnels where the Ratmen were.

“Young Master. Where are we going right now?”

Hyum’s eyes sparkled.

For some reason, it seemed like he wanted to visit the store or had some other expectations.

“We’re going to see the face of Count Roberio.”

“He was already apprehended?”

“Seems so. Faster than I expected.”

It felt like there was no interest whatsoever in Lucion’s voice.

“Young Master.”

The knight spoke up first.

“Speak.”

“Can I follow behind You a bit closer today?”

Because of the last time, the knight was fully determined to not lose sight of him, no matter what.

He didn’t plan on fleeing today, and even if he didn’t ask, Russell could ask for him, so Lucion easily agreed.

“Okay.”

“Thank You!”

Happily, the knight took two steps forward, hesitated for a moment, and took a step back.

Lucion pressed his hood deeper, and walked to the place where sharp curses could be heard.

“We haven’t healed from what happened 25 years ago yet! How can there be such damn bastards in this world! Did you have nothing to cling to, so you clung to shit like a warlock?”

A man was busy throwing stones towards the scrap hanging on the central square.

Thud!

Thud! Thud!

It wasn’t only stones that were thrown.

Most of the people gathered at the central square violated the corpses, while spitting out curses, until there were only scraps left.

“The bastard, who supported warlocks, should go to hell after he dies!”

“Roberio, you bastard. I vomit at the thought of you receiving the mercy of the God of Light! You damn bastard!”

[Sto-stop! Everyone stop!]

Amidst the people throwing curses at the Roberio family, a wailing and flustered voice was mixed in.

Lucion turned his gaze slightly down.

As when his gaze met that of a ghost, he couldn’t let him find out that he was able to see him.

[There, in the middle. Do you hear his voice right now?]

Russell pointed, and Lucion found Roberio with his head crushed and shattered so much its shape couldn’t be recognized.

Roberio was stretching his hands towards the people, floundering his hands to stop someone.

However, his hands only helplessly passed through people.

Every time it happened, Roberio’s face twisted.

He stretched his hands a few times, called a few times, but there was no one who answered him.

[No way. No way… I’m dead!?]

Roberio clenched his fists.

In denial of the fact that was clearly laid out in front of him, he desperately grabbed his hair.

[No way! They told me that the God of Light will guide me when I die!]

[Common bullshit. Everyone becomes ghosts when they die, and they either enter the cycle of life and death or not. That’s the only choice.]

At Russell’s words, Lucion slightly covered his mouth to hide the laughter that leaked out.

It was really funny, though it was something most believed in.

When you die, the God of Light will guide you to the world without suffering and sadness.

Lucion also once believed that.

‘Okay, then let’s wait for an opportunity.’

Lucion waited for the ghostly Roberio to kick the ground and leave.

When people wanted to deny something, wasn’t one of the common reactions to flee?

[One moment, Lucion.]

Russell stopped Lucion.

[It’s a warlock…!]

Bethel spoke up.

The hand, tightly holding the sword, trembled.

The unbearable rage wormed out.

Snap!

Russell snapped his fingers, and the Darkness stirring around Bethel settled.

[Endure, Bethel. You said you’d repay the debt of gratitude to Lucion.]

[I’ll try my best to endure. My best…]

Bethel left with an uncertain voice.

She didn’t know if she wouldn’t swing her sword towards the warlock if she stayed here.

[Don’t show anything. She will soon pass you by. She is a pretty powerful bitch.]

Russell quietly informed him, and Lucion didn’t move his eyes.

Someone with a hood pressed down passed just in front of Lucion.

‘… The smell of iron.’

Lucion maintained a calm expression as he smelled a strong smell of iron.

At that moment, the steps of the person he thought was a warlock stopped.

Her head accurately turned towards Lucion.

Lucion felt that naked gaze like she was looking his way.

— Heup.

Latta was startled.

— Is she looking at Lucion right now? Why?

Thud thud.

Just as Lucion’s heart started to violently race, Hyum spoke up.

“Do You perhaps have some business with Young Master?”

As Hyum asked, the knight approached closer, showing hostility towards the woman.

“No. Apologies for the rudeness.”

She shook her head and stepped back.

Lucion saw her smile.

[That’s not it. You weren’t found out.]

Russell soothed Lucion’s anxiety.

[Rather, the fact that the warlock appeared right now is for one of two things.]

Russell half-close his eyes.

‘It would be either to eliminate Roberio or recruit him.’

Lucion figured out what Russell wanted to say.

However, Lucion could only watch whatever the warlock would put her hands on or not.

As he had a lot to lose.

‘…Damn it.’

Lucion quietly stepped back.

[No matter how I look, it seems that she came to deal with Roberio.]

Russell decided to become Lucion’s eyes for a moment.

‘Is it the Hand of Void…?’

At those words, Lucion pressed his hood deeper.

It seemed that Count Roberio had more information than he thought.

‘That’s a pity. That’s really a pity.’

As he frowned, Lucion quietly listened to Roberio’s screams.

[Aaaack!]

— Heup!

Latta was startled.

‘You used black magic here? In the central square?’

Lucion was also startled, but he worked hard to bite his lips.

[There is no need to be surprised. You will also be able to do this later. Once you can keep Darkness from flying around, you won’t be noticed by most people, as the magic does not make a sound when used.]

Russell quickly figured out Lucion’s thoughts.

As Lucion couldn’t even walk yet, he could hardly think of doing something like this.

[That said, it’s not like there are no traces. If you can only awkwardly cover those traces, it’s better to disguise it as aura. As aura can be used to reinforce the body and equipment, it won’t be awkward at all.]

Russell continued to pay attention to the situation between Roberio and the warlock.

“Young Master? Do You feel unwell?”

When Lucion was just quietly standing, the knight reluctantly asked.

“No. I just felt dizzy for a moment.”

Lucion shook his head.

“Are You okay? Please wipe Your sweat.”

Hyum quick-wittedly spoke up and handed him a handkerchief.

‘Isn’t he doing well?’

Lucion accepted the handkerchief with a slight smile.

— Uh! The ghost is escaping!

Latta said.

While he was wiping his sweat with a handkerchief like nothing was happening, a translucent ghost entered his vision.

[This damn warlock!]

Roberio shouted.

[You’re stabbing me in the back like this? I can’t disappear like this! Not like this!]

Roberio was anxious.

After he was touched by something black a moment ago, he felt his body slowly crumbling.

It was different from the feeling of dying. It felt like it was going to really be the end, and unknowable fear surged in him.

[If there is a warlock here, listen to me! I’m just a puppet who was miserably killed like this!]

Roberio didn’t want to die like this.

[Don’t join the Hand of Void! They’re crazy! Crazy I say! They’re gathering, saying they want to create a curse to spread throughout the central region, and are gathering corpses! You know what it means if you’re human, right?]

‘… Gathering corpses?’

Lucion peacefully accepted the water offered to him by Hyum.

He had many guesses.

Preparations for a plague, curse, raising the dead, etc.

Because there are too many things the Hand of Void could commit.

[The leader of those dog fuckers is in the Neavera Kingdom!]

‘….!’

Lucion hesitated a bit before he swallowed the water.

‘… Crazy. That bastard was a real honey sucker, huh?’

Right now, Roberio just told him that the base of the Hand of Void was in the Neavera Kingdom.

Neavera Kingdom.

It was a big neighborhood kingdom that was aiming for the empire’s place, and those bastards were eternal enemies of the border.

[Cross scar.]

Roberio’s mouth spit out that cross scar Orion mentioned last time.

[It’s a bastard with a cross scar on his palm and blackened fingertips. That’s the real bastard holding hands with the Hand of Void. I’m just a scarecrow… Aack!]

The warlock finally caught the fleeing Roberio.

[He went to heaven.]

Russell announced Roberio’s end.

Now, his business here was finished.

Lucion even thought that Roberio’s last moments were a great help to him.

“I saw everything I wanted. Let’s return to the carriage now.”

Lucion spoke up to Hyum and turned around.

***

“We will wait for the day when we can see You again.”

The butler managing the villa bowed to Carson and Lucion.

Lucion became a saint and got his hands on the Divine Beast’s blessing, Death Knight Bethel, and Ratmen, who were originally villains.

“Alright. You have worked hard all this time.”

Carson looked at the butler and the servants and smiled.

Considering that Carson was usually brusque, there was no higher praise.

“Thank you for everything.”

Lucion also expressed his gratitude to them, and followed Carson out through the door.

Clang!

According to the emperor’s orders, the Imperial Knights visited the villa.

Lucion was secretly uncomfortable about seeing them, but he endured.

‘Okay, then it’s Luminos’ turn next?’

One of the villain groups, the mage group Luminos.

Today, he set a trap for those bastards who ranked among the worst.

The Imperial Knights and the Cronia Knight Order.

There were no more perfect preparations than this.
