64. Faith and test (11)

At the time of the exchange with the Military School, The Demons attempted to assassinate Tao Wonu using Tao Sihu’s Gwangrim.

It was then when I heard about Tao Sihu’s Gwangrim from Jang Namuk.

The chain that restrains superpower wave.

As the chain itself also materializes, it’s possible to use that chain to attack, but its attack power is rather low.

As such Jang Namuk explained it’s subtle to say it’s an Attack type, and he would rather call it Capture type.

‘No way, was it Tao Sihu’s chain which was sealing Wúzhīqí!?’

In fact, if it was a Jin that had a legend of fighting King Yǔ of Xià Dynasty, she could break that chain with her physical power and overpower Tao Sihu.

But what if Demons lent a hand in the middle?

Moreover, Wúzhīqí had notoriety with the concept of ‘chain’.

‘Based on the legends, there was a time when Wúzhīqí was coincidentally discovered by some fisherman, but…’

Wúzhīqí sunk to the bottom of the river, tied by a chain and iron ball.

One day, Wúzhīqí raised above the water surface.

That triggered her discovery by some fisherman, who was fishing.

The fisherman reported that he saw a strange thing when fishing to the provincial governor of Jiāo Zhōu[1].

The governor, accompanied dozens of fishermen and fifty cows succeeded in dragging the shackles and Wúzhīqí out of water.

The Xià Dynasty has already ended, and Yǔ the Great, who overpowered Wúzhīqí already disappeared, in front of her were ordinary people.

Wúzhīqí could obtain freedom after ages.

But seeing the chain tying her body, Wúzhīqí returned underwater again.

‘It wouldn’t be strange to say that Tao Sihu’s Gwangrim was extremely optimized for holding Wúzhīqí. This can’t be a coincidence.’

Tao Sihu, who was obsessed with water, Tao Sihu, who almost drowned a few times when attending swimming classes, Tao Sihu, who had sea sickness.

Recalling Tao Sihu, who had a connection with water, I couldn’t stay still.

“I finished the treatment I could do right now.”

“Good work.”

Opportunely, it seemed that Wúzhīqí’s treatment was finished.

As if he planned to hear from Yu Sang-hui what happened later, Qítiān Dàshèng exchanged the device codes with her.

Usually, watching such a scene, Tao Wonu would make some ugly noise, but he kept his mouth tightly shut.

It was not that he was intimidated that the other party was Qítiān Dàshèng, but more that he seemingly realized that he was in no position to act unsightly towards Yu Sang-hui.

As if I wasn’t the only one having such thoughts, the Student Council’s members and Yu Sang-hun glanced at Tao Wonu.

To disperse the gazes pouring towards Tao Wonu and to organize the place, I spoke:

“The Player’s Association will soon arrive. As the otherworlds will be conquered soon, the Pro Player teams that the Association called will turn back, but the Association’s Enforcement Department will investigate this research institute.”

“Leave this place to me. Everyone, go back.”

Tao Wonu spoke bluntly.

I guess he planned to take responsibility for the entire matter here.

Of course, I have no thoughts of abandoning Tao Wonu with all of this, but it looked like the wisest plan was to leave this place right now.

‘I should step back as Tao Wonu says. Being seen here will be no help to Tao Wonu. As I already made countermeasures, I can confirm how things turned out later and plan what move to play next…’

At that moment, someone stood in front of Tao Wonu.

“I’ll remain too.”

“… Sanghui-ah.”

The one, who declared she will remain was Sang-hui.

Perhaps she deliberately left the wounds on her own body, when healing Wúzhīqí, there was still a scratch left by the syringe on her neck

Yu Sang-hui looked at the research institute that became a mess and Wúzhīqí in Qítiān Dàshèng’s arms.

The scratches that were visible under the jacket covering her body disappeared, and her complexion got better, but Wúzhīqí still didn’t open her eyes.

“I did something I shouldn’t because I fell for the lies of those trashes like a fool. I shouldn’t cooperate in such an unidentified experiment, but…”

“… Why is it your fault?!”

Yu Sang-hun shouted, cutting off Yu Sang-hui’s words.

I knew that he usually spoke to Yu Sang-hui casually, but didn’t expect that he called her by ‘you’.

‘I understand your emotions, but it will get complicated if you raise your voice here…’

I did my best to make him wear a mask and act at a distance from the Student Council’s members to hide his identity, but it was all useless.

Now the Student Council’s members all knew that Yu Sang-hun was here.

The smart Student Council’s members pretended not to know even though they knew.

Instead, they also refuted Yu Sang-hui’s words.

“That’s true. What fault is in being deceived?”

“Being at fault for being deceived is the logic of swindlers.”

“Those trashes used our Group’s name. As such, I have to take the responsibility for this place.”

The Student Council’s members, including Tao Wonu, persuaded Yu Sang-hui, but Yu Sang-hui insisted on remaining until the end.

“It will be immediately revealed that I was here anyway. I want to quickly cooperate with the Player Association’s investigation.”

Yu Sang-hui seemed to have already hardened her resolve.

There was no way to persuade her any longer.

There were numerous ways to hide Yu Sang-hui’s existence in this, but it didn’t seem like she would accept them.

My insides twisted at the fact that I have to leave Yu Sang-hui and Tao Wonu in such a place.

“People are coming. If You wish to avoid commotion, it’s better to leave.”

Qítiān Dàshèng looked up and said.

When such words fell, Ji Myeong-su settled the situation.

“Let’s go, kids-ah.”

“However…”

“Leave those two here.”

Yu Sang-hun expressed his great dissatisfaction at the fact that Yu Sang-hui was remaining, but realizing that he couldn’t persuade anyone to let him stay here too and that it would only complicate things, so he took a step back.

I spoke to pacify Yu Sang-hun and reassure the others.

“Cheon Dongha is coming. He said he is gathering trustworthy people. He will help in settling the situation.”

I didn’t like at all the actions of the Cheon family people related to the TC Group, but Cheon Dongha could be trusted.

At the words that Cheon Dongha is coming, the Student Council’s members, including Yeom Junyeol left the place reassured.

But I couldn’t return to the dormitory yet.

‘There is a place I still have to go.’

I need to dig for the clue left by the Power of Fate.

When I turned on the device and checked the location, and was about to use Movement type Gwangrim.

“I guess you ended things before I went out, eh?”

Hwang Jiho in his twenties stood in front of me.

Behind Hwang Jiho’s back, I saw the otherworld gap disappearing.

Paaa…!

At the same time, as I saw the Player team dispatched by the Association approaching in the distance, a message notifying about the completion of otherworld conquest arrived on the device.

Looking at the message, Hwang Jiho was the first to finish the conquest, but the other two otherworld were still being conquered.

‘… He conquered it quicker than I expected!’

Was the otherworld Hwang Jiho took was a lower rarity?

No, the rarity of all three otherworlds was the same.

Hwang Jiho in his twenties, who finished an otherworld conquest a moment ago, didn’t show any signs of being tired.

The only thing was that unlike the usual, he had two more shirt buttons under the neck unbuttoned.

“Where are you going? I’ll accompany you this time.”

It seemed like Hwang Jiho knew that I had no plans of returning home yet.

* * *

Tao Sihu dreamed of the moment he was kidnapped when he was young.

When, like usual, he climbed the car that was waiting for him to go back after finishing a swimming class.

Tao Sihu felt that something was not right.

The car was the car he usually rode, but the faces of the driver and bodyguards all changed.

They seemed similar, but everyone was somewhat different.

— Who are You, sirs?

At Tao Sihu’s question, the people exchanged glances, slightly surprised, and then started to make nonsensical excuses.

The driver caught a cold so another person came, and the bodyguards were absent because some happy or unhappy events — completely unreasonable excuses.

‘If I got off here, something might have changed.’

The young Tao Sihu was more worried about the people, who were absent rather than his doubts.

The moment he turned on the device to choose a recovery gift and sent ‘get well soon’ to the driver, who caught a cold.

Tao Sihu fainted.

Just when Tao Sihu took his eyes off them, they attacked him.

When Tao Sihu opened his eyes, he saw unfamiliar scenery.

‘I was kidnapped…!’

Tao Sihu figured out his situation right away.

Holding his breath, Tao Sihu pretend to still be unconsciousness.

The things to prioritize in a kidnapping case was first his life, then rescue request.

According to what he was taught, Tao Sihu worked hard to figure out his location, without alerting the kidnappers.

As he slightly cracked open his eyes and looked around, the first thing entered his view was an enormous water tank.

Something was inside the water tank, tied with iron ball and iron chains.

‘What is that…?’

Tao Sihu tried to get a good look at it, but he soon had to tightly shut his eyes.

Because he heard someone talking, as they approached.

— Report the current situation. How about the control of ‘that thing’?

— If it’s tied in a sea or in a river, it’s safe. However, if it’s put in an artificial water tank and brought on land, it notices like a ghost and starts to run wild.

‘That thing’ seemed to refer to something in the water tank.

Tao Sihu carefully think through what those people said and what he saw.

‘Something in the water tank is calm. Then we’re at sea or a river, huh!’

Although Tao Sihu had a serious sea sickness, as a son of the Ship King, he studied ships.

He judged that he was currently in a ship, and having this water tank led him to believe that this ship was on a river or a sea.

Tao Sihu frantically tried to reason out the ship model by looking at the ship’s decorations.

But was it because he rolled his head too much or because the opponent was shrewd?

The opponent find out that Tao Sihu came back to his senses.

— You’ve opened your eyes, eh? Let’s get to work.

Someone forcibly raised Tao Sihu’s body.

He was roughly hooked up by the wrist, causing him pain, but Tao Sihu endured and kept his eyes closed.

‘… I can’t open the eyes!’

The first hostage to be dealt with, is a hostage that memorized the kidnapper’s face.

Tao Sihu remembered those words, and frantically tried to keep his eyes closed.

— How wise. If you have opened your eyes, I planned to blind you.

It looked like Tao Sihu’s actions were the right answer.

More than the pain he felt from his left arm that was grabbed a moment ago, fighting against the mental pain was more difficult.

Because it looked like the opponent had no hesitation in hurting Tao Sihu.

‘Even so, there must be the reason why they didn’t kill me right away!’

He was terrified, but that thought hold Tao Sihu up.

— All done?

— Yes, I have erased the Association’s Gwangrim Sealing Technique. [2]

He felt a burning like pain in his left wrist, it seemed that they forcibly erased the Gwangrim Sealing Technique.

He wanted to check his wrist right now, but Tao Sihu kept his eyes tightly closed.

— Do as I order and I’ll send you safely back to your family.

Do as they order?

Tao Sihu listened attentively.

He had learned in the safety class that if possible he should do as a kidnappers orders.

Calling his parents, asking for help, reciting the money a kidnapper requests, things like that.

But the opponent requested something he couldn’t have expected.

— You can use your Gwangrim now.

Now that he thought about it, they said they erased the Gwangrim Sealing Technique.

He thought that the goal of erasing that Sealing Technique was to cause him pain and fear.

But because Tao Sihu couldn’t figure out the kidnappers’ goal, he was confused.

The kidnapper continued their request.

— With that Gwangrim, seal the being in front of you.

[1] Jiāo Zhōu — 椒州, province of Balhae Kingdom.

[2] Yes, I have erased the Association’s Gwangrim Sealing Technique. — This was said by the subordinate/formally speaking person.

Translator’s note: It bothers me so much why we have a story of kidnapping in the chapter titled ‘Faith and test’. I can’t even explain it with homonyms, because I can’t find them! Agghrhrhr!

  3. Okay, yeah, it looks like little Sihu trapped Wúzhīqí. Now I’m wonder HOW they knew what Sihu’s sealed Gwangrim is. A mole in the association records from when it was sealed? Or can demons just… TELL? I really hope he isn’t going to have a drowning curse AND have Qítiān Dàshèng as a life-long enemy now. Hopefully both Qítiān Dàshèng and Wúzhīqí will recognize that a kidnapped child couldn’t have realistically resisted in this situation?
