Chapter 54. Those cheers are just for me (3)

Putting aside the royal family and the Grand Temple’s interests, it was certain that they dumped enormously privileged positions on Lucion.

Wasn’t he the only person who received the blessing of the Divine Beast of Light?

‘I’ll use the power you gave me well.’

There was nothing more special in the world than being the only one.

“Long live the saint!”

“God of Light, bless the empire!”

Lucion couldn’t enjoy his happiness any longer because of the cheers that gradually grew louder, and he tightly closed his eyes.

His lips trembled.

He endured until this point, but now he had reached his limit.

He wanted to kick the ground and leave right now.

However, Lucion had to force himself to show a smile.

Because, as if informing him that his fate has started in earnest, four red threads rose from the ground, coiled around him, and disappeared.

* * *

“… Haa.”

Lucion leaned against the chair and just sighed.

The declaration ceremony started in the hall, and now a parade was ahead of him.

He was utterly exhausted, as if he already conquered a mountain and came back.

[Eol, that punk. He got away in the end.]

Russell voiced his regrets.

Eol finally succeeded in finding a warlock.

To be precise, there was a servant charmed by a warlock, and he succeeded in keeping his head.

After Lucion drank the water handed to him by Hyum, he spoke up.

“That’s good in the end. That bastard is my shield, so he can’t die yet.”

The emperor imposed a fine of 50,000 Del on Eol and was kicked out of the empire.

Because the Nevast priests were clearly in the wrong here, they quietly retreated.

‘That’s a cheap price for a life, but that fine is all going into my pockets, so I have no regrets.’

Thinking about the fine he will receive, Lucion handed Hyum a cup in a good mood.

Wasn’t fifty thousand close to half a million won?

“Did you find those bastards?”

The reason he brought Hyum into the hall was to find his enemies.

“Yes. I found them all. After the next event, the parade, I’ll point them out to You at the banquet.”

Hyum accepted the cup and looked at Lucion with worry.

“You worked hard, Young Master.”

“What hard? All I did was get shot by some Light.”

[That’s hard work.]

Russell spoke with disapproval.

[That damn emperor tested you, and that damn priest minced your body with Light. What that…]

Russell couldn’t continue his words to the end, and sighed.

He was glad the results were good.

“But Russell-nim.”

Hyum couldn’t endure the itching of his mouth and asked:

[What?]

“Is it possible to safely pass the examination like the young master?”

When Russell trained Lucion, even if he wasn’t often around, he sometimes was, so he revealed doubts.

[No. Naturally it’s impossible.]

Russell pointed at Lucion.

[It’s possible if you have Light resistance like Lucion… Assuming they knew the way, it would be impossible without being as spiteful as Lucion.]

At the word ‘spiteful’, Lucion shrugged.

“Master-nim, You should try latchou. At first, it tastes like nothing but grass, but the more You chew it, the sweeter it becomes.”

[Look at that. He says that because I said he is spiteful. He is doing a product show to spread poison later.]

Russell’s eyes twitched slightly, perhaps dumbfounded.

Hyum secretly handed a piece of candy to Lucion, who was contemplating something, and then thought what he should give to Latta, who was staring at him.

“Give her a bit of meat. She did well.”

Lucion rolled the candy in his mouth, and said.

— Heup.

While Latta was happily circling his feet, he heard the sound of knocking on the door.

Knock, knock.

‘… Ha. Another starter?’

Lucion pressed his aching temples.

A blue thread revealed itself proudly.

‘The four red threads that appeared and then disappeared were already annoying.’

Until now, the red threads never appeared and disappeared.

He couldn’t even tell who it was.

‘… Uh? They’re running away?’

Lucion, who was leisurely waiting for Hyum to open the door, urgently spoke up.

“Hurry up!”

The blue thread suddenly grew distant.

[What’s the matter?]

Russell stuck out his head through the wall, and then shouted:

[That bastard is running away!]

Bang!

Hyum, who opened the door right away, caught the bastard pointed out by Russell by his collar.

[Where are the knights who should be guarding the door?]

‘Where did the knights go?’

At Russell’s grumbling, Lucion tied his fingers.

He didn’t think this strange event happened by coincidence.

The security for this room was so tight that even Carson couldn’t enter.

But such a trivial mistake occurred?

Hyum dragged in the bastard and made him kneel in front of Lucion.

“Yo-young Master, ple-please forgive me!”

The bastard looked to be the royal family’s servant.

From his ashen face, it seemed he didn’t expect to get caught.

“Who was it?”

Lucion accepted the letter Hyum handed to him, as he asked.

“Thi-this lowly bastard only did it because he was given money.”

“How did you get in here? It’s not a place a bastard like you can enter, right?”

“I was informed about the rotation time!”

‘It’s natural that there are insiders.’

Lucion thought there was nothing more to gain and opened the letter.

— Isn’t the Lord resentful? Isn’t the Lord disgusted by the people who smile at the Lord just because You received the blessing of the Divine Best? They’re the people who condemned and pointed fingers at the Lord. I know how the Lord was treated until now.

The moment Lucion read the first words, he almost crumpled the letter.

‘It feels like words that a third-rate villain would say. Horrible.’

“Young Master.”

Hyum spoke up.

“Speak.”

“I can smell Count Roberio from this letter.”

Snap.

The blue thread was caught rather easily.

‘Damn…’

Lucion crumpled the letter with a tired face.

Count Roberio was approaching him like this?

[The one who wrote it was Count Roberio…? That’s a waste of the title of a count.]

Russell was disgusted.

After Lucion organized the situation, he decided to first deal with the servant.

“Hand that bastard to Heint hyung-nim. You saw him around a moment ago, right?”

“Yes. I know where He is.”

Hyum grabbed the servant and left.

Lucion took out Latta, who hid behind the chair, and sat her on his knees.

Heint was going to become an Imperial Knight, but he wasn’t officially appointed as an Imperial Knight yet.

‘But Heint strangely keeps hovering around me.’

Lucion’s expression crumpled as he stroked Latta.

‘Suddenly, Count Roberio, who I had never met, sent me a letter trying to drag me into the evil forces.’

The situation from the novel where Lucion brings Roberio in was reversed.

With the mindset of ‘just in case’, Lucion didn’t read the letter any further and tore it.

After the first words, it wasn’t any different.

It contained bullshit like ‘don’t you resent the world?’, ‘I can help you take revenge’.

[Uh, wait. I haven’t read it all yet.]

Russell opened his eyes wide.

“There is no need to read it. The content was all cheap and worthless.”

[It was more fun than I expected. Anyway, you aren’t planning to meet that bastard, right?]

“You almost read it all.”

The last sentences of the letter were the location Roberio invited him to.

[No, well. My eyes are good.]

“Naturally, I don’t plan on going. Why would I go there?”

He was someone who wanted to avoid becoming a villain more than anyone else.

He already killed a warlock and put his hands on the proof of the deeds Roberio committed in the documents he brought.

[I’m glad. If it was you a few weeks ago, I think you would patter to him, saying ‘Okay, fuck this world’.]

Russell sighed in relief.

“Master-nim.”

[No, you would say that, right?]

Russell shrugged.

***

The parade was shortened by half at Carson’s earnest request, since Lucion’s condition wasn’t good, and the emperor’s order, who confirmed this.

Thanks to that, Lucion could breathe.

Russell said that he would suddenly develop a fever as if he had a cold, and he would be sick for a few days, and he finally really felt it.

“Lucion.”

Carson called out to Lucion.

Perhaps he had dozed off while the carriage headed to the central square, Lucion was startled and opened his eyes.

“Yes, Hyung-nim.”

“Put earplugs into your ears before you get out of the carriage. It’s better than nothing.”

“Thank You. I’ll use them well.”

Lucion worked hard to smile.

Because of the fever, his ears were already stuffy, but considering the people gathered in the central square, it would be better than nothing as Carson said.

His hands were already cold like ice.

“I apologize that I can’t help You even though I’m a priest.”

Beros, who was observing his complexion all this time, spoke up.

It seemed he felt strange that even though there was a patient in pain, he couldn’t do anything.

“No. I’m better now.”

Lucion slightly shook his head.

[You probably will be sicker tomorrow.]

Scary words came out of Russell’s mouth.

— Then does Lucion have to continue to be in pain?

Latta asked.

[Obviously not. Once the Darkness completely recovers, he will be fine. Originally, his state would be much worse than right now, but thanks to the Light resistance, it ended with just this.]

He slowly started to hear people’s voices.

[But I’m worried about now.]

Russell pointed at the people outside of the carriage.

Lucion never faced so many people.

He just prayed that he wouldn’t collapse.

After a while, the carriage stopped at the central square.

Because he could already hear the cheers, Lucion scowled and grabbed his chest.

‘It came in an instant’.

The moment the carriage stopped, dizzying pain spread out through his whole body.

“… Haa.”

Lucion slowly breathed in and out.

“Are you okay?”

Carson asked.

“No. It’s extremely difficult.”

Lucion opened his palms.

He could confirm right away that he was trembling.

“But as there is a Person more nervous than me, I’m much better.”

Lucion looked at Beros who was trembling since a moment ago.

“Ap-apologies. I’m nervous because I’m unfamiliar with people’s gazes.”

“It’s okay. I’m the same.”

He has always only watched Novio and Carson, who were confident in front of people’s gazes, so he thought that Beros’ appearance was refreshing.

He wasn’t the only one, huh?

At the thought that suddenly flashed in Lucion’s head, he relaxed a bit more than before.

Lucion put in the earplugs and waited for the door to open.

When the door opened, he heard some of the people’s voices through the earplugs’ gap.

Carson came out first from the carriage, then Beros, and then him.

[You can do it, don’t worry.]

Before Lucion stepped out, Russell spoke.

At that anxious appearance, Lucion replied powerfully, as his feet hit the ground.

“Yes.”

Boom!

Lucion was about to come out, but hesitated.

As if the inside of the carriage and outside of it were two different worlds, he already felt the pressure of the dozens of people gathered in the central square.

‘… I can’t breathe.’

Lucion couldn’t raise his head.

It felt like people became a wave and they would flood him with curses and blame at any moment.

— Lucion. Look at the people!

Latta spoke brightly.

— Everyone is smiling widely when they see Lucion. So Latta is also automatically smiling!

‘They smile when they see me?’

For a moment Lucion doubted his ears.

[Yeah, Lucion. I don’t have plans to force you, but try to raise your head and look just once.]

When Russell also added in, Lucion grabbed the hem of his clothes with a trembling hand.

But his head was too heavy.

Sweat formed at some point and dripped down his chin to the ground.

“Lord Cronia.”

Beros quietly called out to Lucion.

“I can do nothing but confront people according to my position. I tremble in fear every time. But, Lord Cronia never bows his head. I swear in the name of the God of Light.”

Because of the earplugs, Lucion couldn’t properly hear what Beros said.

However, he thought it was similar to what Latta and Russell said.

Listening to his racing heart, Lucion slowly raised his head.

People’s legs.

Stomachs.

Necks.

Lucion’s gaze stopped there for a moment.

What kind of faces were the people making above it? He couldn’t push away fear and endure.

“… Heuk.”

When Lucion started to hyperventilate for a moment, Beros hastily showed the Divine Beast to take away people’s attention for a moment.

“Whoaaa!”

“The Divine Beast appeared!”

The people, who had no idea about the situation, cheered at the appearance of the Divine Beast.

His pure white and dignified looks were powerful enough to steal people’s gazes.

“Lucion, are you okay?”

Carson quickly supported Lucion.

It was amazing that Lucion endured the declaration ceremony held in the hall.

You can stop.

Those words were on the tips of Carson and Russell’s tongues.

“Is… everyone really smiling?”

At that moment, Lucion weakly spoke up.

He didn’t want to turn back after coming all the way here.

Why should he step back?

— Yeah! Latta can’t lie.

Latta replied.

[Yeah. They’re smiling brightly.]

Russell replied.

Lucion gained courage thanks to those words.

— Lucion.

Troe softly called out to Lucion.

— Those cheers are just for you.

‘Just for me…?’

When Lucion naturally raised his head, Troe slightly made space.

Gradually Lucion’s pupils started to shake greatly.

‘They’re smiling…’

The people were smiling brightly while looking at him.

‘They’re really smiling.’

Lucion unplugged his ears with trembling hands.

‘Yeah. Today is for me.’

“Lucion! Lucion!”

The cheers that poured out just in front of his nose, like a rushing wave, were really just for him.

Thud.

Thud.

While feeling a completely different trembling from a moment ago, Lucion stared at this completely different world.
