EX-rank’s Replay (307)

Translator: Wan ED/PR: Personal Ghost

52. Holidays and school anniversary (4)

The nameless supporting character, the supervisor who died[1] in the tutorial, Kim Sinrok.

Because his name didn’t come up in the game, I had no idea that he was the key characters’ son, disciple and friend.

Naturally, I also didn’t know how Kim Sinrok died.

‘There was something else besides the Ung’s attack?’

Just after I came to this world, Kim Sinrok appeared in a half-dead state exactly like the supervisor in PMH.

At this point, the only difference my interference made was whether we survived in that gym or not.

If Kim Sinrok obtained some kind of information in the attack process, it would be information that could be obtained without using Replay.

So I thought there was no information that could be obtained from Kim Sinrok, even with the Replay’s usage.

‘Was there something that caused Kim Sinrok such a shock that he couldn’t even remember it?’

As he was injured to the point where he would have died if it was just a little bit late, it wasn’t strange that he lost some memories due to shock.

I caught a clue about the ‘Long Tail’, but I couldn’t be happy.

Because I made him go through that experience again.

“Something is different from what you experienced? What was the ‘Future of the time when Jo Uisin didn’t exist’ like?”

At Hwang Jiho’s question, Kim Sinrok replied a bit late.

It seemed like he was recalling the content of his dream in his head again.

“Everything was the way I experienced it. Just that there was no Jo Uisin. In the dream I and the group 13’s examinees died.”

Kim Sinrok, who tried to stand up from the recliner, quietly looked at his leg below the knee.

I heard that because Kim Sinrok was so injured he couldn’t walk, he underwent a restoration surgery.

It looked like that sensation was still vivid.

At the time they had a distant relationship with each other, but Jeok-ho, who knew very well how and where his son was injured that day, made a seething face.

“Don’t stand up. There is no need to talk about it right now. How about resting more if it’s still difficult? Hwang-ho, my son’s teacup is empty. Please prepare more tea.”

“… I’m fine. I want to talk about it while my memories are still vivid.”

As if Kim Sinrok was uncomfortable sitting alone at the recliner, he moved to the sofa in the center of the drawing room.

Jeok-ho kept patting Kim Sinrok’s back throughout this entire short distance.

After Kim Sinrok sat down, he personally put the refilled by Hwang Jiho teacup into Kim Sinrok’s hands.

As he showed such an extremely devoted attitude, I even thought Jeok-ho might strike my and Hwang Jiho’s heads with lightning.

‘I think I would be rather more comfortable if I was hit by lightning…’

Kim Sinrok, who found composure, thanks to his father’s care, opened his mouth.

“… It happened just after I encountered the Training category Ung, who raided Eungwang School.”

Kim Sinrok explained the nightmare he saw through the Replay.

He said he had faced the Ung from the front and a Jin, who wasn’t an Ung, from the rear.

“You mean that the attack which made your leg like this was from a Jin, who wasn’t an Ung?”

“The only ones who can manipulate the 12 Zodiac jointly made Eungwang School’s barrier, without me sensing it, are the heads. After that head broke the barrier, they probably dared to carry out an attack with the Ung tribe.”

Jeok-ho and Hwang Jiho’s voices showed clear signs of rage.

After the two tigers’ anger subsided, Kim Sinrok continued to speak.

“After that person ambushed me, they left some words. Considering those words, It seems that the Long Tail has descendants.”

“What situation was it to suddenly mention descendants? Isn’t it possible they spoke nonsense to cause confusion?”

“… It doesn’t seem so.”

Hwang Jiho asked again, but Kim Sinrok just talked around it, and didn’t answer properly.

It didn’t seem like he was like this because he didn’t remember, so there seemed to be another reason.

“Son-ah, you don’t have to talk about it, if it’s difficult.”

When Jeok-ho spoke with a worry-filled voice, Kim Sinrok seemed to gain courage to speak.

Kim Sinrok hesitated, and then opened his mouth.

“… They said ‘I’m glad there are no such mixed bloods among our descendants’.”

Paaat! Kwawang!

At Kim Sinrok’s words, some of the furniture in the drawing room exploded because of the superpower wave released by the tigers.

The fall didn’t end yet, but it seemed that they would do another interior redesign.

As Baek Ho-gun’s surrounding was intact, it seemed that his superpower wave didn’t explode like Hwang Jiho and Jeok-ho’s, but his eyes were full of murderous intent.

“They probably said it while insulting you, eh? There would be some other words beside it.”

“Dare, to my son…!”

Hwang Jiho probably guessed why Kim Sinrok couldn’t speak straight away, and that there were some words he omitted.

Jeok-ho had a face like he was on a brink of cursing with words I never saw or heard in my life, like when he threw a punch at Baek Ho-gun before, but it seemed he quietly swallowed them after looking at his son.

As if to calm down the boiling anger, Hwang Jiho put ice in the schisandra tea to cool it down and handed it to the tigers.

In the process of it, Kim Sinrok and I were handed warm tea.

I warmed my cold hands against the tea up, while falling into thoughts.

‘As there is a clue, I have to think about it.’

Even if I got angry with them here, it wouldn’t calm down the tigers’ minds.

The only thing that I could do as an outsider was to consider moves to play in the future.

The remaining candidates for the Long Tail were the Woo tribe, Sa tribe, Ma tribe and Won tribe. [2]

Among the four, as the Ma tribe offered the important information about the Demons’ Eyes and made an alliance, the chance of them being the traitor was drastically reduced.

‘If so, then Woo tribe, Sa tribe and Won tribe. I can reduce the candidates to those three.’

Actions of the three heads which I was contemplating.

Comments made by the three heads during the 12 Zodiac’s meeting.

Words Kim Sinrok heard through the Replay.

As I organized them in my head, I arrived at a certain conclusion.

“It appears you realized something, eh? Speak, Jo Uisin.”

At some point, the tigers’ gazes poured towards me.

The drawing room interior became a mess because of the tigers’ short outburst, but it seemed that everyone calmed down, while I was clearing my thoughts.

“I wish you investigate the two remaining Long Tail’s candidates.”

“… Two you say?”

I expected that Hwang Jiho would realize it straight away, but it seemed it was difficult for him to think coldly because of thoughts about Kim Sinrok.

“With the alliance with the Ma tribe, the main candidates for the Long Tail decreased to the Woo tribe, Sa tribe and Won tribe.”

As I spoke up to here, Hwang Jiho opened his eyes a bit wide, and nodded his head.

“Right, eh? Monkeys don’t have descendants.”

At the time of the 12 Zodiac Alliance meeting, considering that Yong Jegeon and Yeom Junyeol belong to the Eungwang School, the Yong tribe head, Cheongryong, declared they would completely cooperate with the Ho tribe.

After that declaration, it continued to such a conversation.

辰 [Max level Cheongryong] “Know that if our descendants, especially Junyeol, gets hurt, I’ll turn this alliance or whatever and your divine realm into a sea of fire.”

申 [Strongest in the Universe Heaven’s Equal Great Sage] “Ah, I know, I know. The Jin people without descendants will die from sorrow.”

Here 申 [Strongest in the Universe Heaven’s Equal Great Sage] was Sun Wukong, who appeared in the Journey to the West, and a Won.

“The Won tribe doesn’t have many members, and not even one descendant. Every time we meet, he envies the existence of descendants.”

Hwang Jiho continued to speak.

“Woo tribe and Sa tribe, we will be able to investigate them if it’s just the two, eh? But as we have to monitor Zhu Ganglie’s movements, and sent someone to Heuk-ma’s side, it will be difficult to go all out in the investigation of them.”

“Hwang-ho, I’ll go!”

Jeok-ho shouted enthusiastically, but Hwang Jiho shook his head.

“You can’t. What are you planning to do if there is a person, who can see through your Red Smoke around the Long tail?”

“There is no one matching my ability to gather information among the Ho tribe members.”

“Even though they aren’t as skilled as you in information gathering, I’ll send a Ho tribe member, who knows how to protect their body.”

Hwang Jiho and Jeok-ho argued, but when Kim Sinrok looked at Jeok-ho with an anxious face, the situation was immediately resolved.

Jeok-ho couldn’t be heartless enough to abandon his son, who endured hardships, and ran at the enemy lines.

“Thank You, Jo Uisin. I almost missed the important information.”

Kim Sinrok thanked me with a face much better than when he opened his eyes.

I don’t know if he should give such thanks after dreaming a nightmare.

When I couldn’t reply, Kim Sinrok added a word.

“Actually, after being hit, my mind became hazy because of pain. There may be more information I missed. If Jo Uisin is okay with it, You can use this ability one more time on me right now…”

“Son-ah, what are you talking about!?”

Jeok-ho cut him off and Hwang Jiho scolded Kim Sinrok.

“Even if Jo Uisin could use this ability again right now, I disapprove. Today you should rest, and tomorrow morning go to the central zone infirmary no. 1, and get a full check up and then rest for at least three days.”

“I’m fine. Rather, continuing seeing this dream could help with recalling of my memories…”

“It’s not only you, but also Jo Uisin who could be damaged.”

Suddenly I was dragged into this.

I was fine, but I worried that if I opened my mouth here for no reason, I would give an excuse to Kim Sinrok to strain himself, so I decided to shut my mouth.

“The abilities interfering with the dreams and mind usually also influence the user’s mind.”

As I didn’t dream, it seemed to be fine.

Even so, as I couldn’t guarantee it, I shut my mouth.

Hwang Jiho looked between me and Kim Sinrok, while speaking with a stern voice.

“Jo Uisin, you too visit the infirmary tomorrow, and get examined together with Kim Sinrok.”

I thought it wasn’t that bad if it was just getting a check-up, and not drinking the elixir.

Hwang Jiho thought I would make a fuss, but I replied ‘Got it’ first.

In front of the dormitory building.

Snare, who saw me off together with Baek Ho-gun, expressed its sadness with its whole body.

Woof woof! Keung….

It looked in the direction of Hwang Myeong-ho’s great mansion and then towards me. It seemed to be trying to tell me to go back right now.

The tigers offered me to stay at the Hwang Myeong-ho’s mansion throughout the Chuseok holidays.

But I couldn’t do such a thing.

There were class children at the dormitory, and I would be stuck a few days among the tiger family.

As I refused with the excuse of the midterm exams, Hwang Jiho spoke up as if showing mercy.

— If you insist, I’ll send you out. But in exchange, make some time on October 3rd.

— … Ah, don’t forgot to get a check up at the infirmary tomorrow. If you don’t come on time, I’ll look for you in person.

I didn’t reply to that nonsense and said something ‘I’ll go now. Have a good time.’.

I don’t know about the examination, but I thought of ignoring the October 3rd thing if needed.

However, unlike with Hwang Jiho, I couldn’t ignore the cute and kind Snare in front of me.

“I can’t, because it’s the exam period now. When the exams end, I’ll visit more often.”

Keung…

When I crouched down and was diligently giving goodbyes to Snare.

I heard someone’s voice calling out to me.

“Class vice president, You came?”

The one who called out to me was Mok Uram.

I guess Mok Uram was in the 1st year dormitory building’s lobby.

Mok Uram looked at Snare, who was looking up at me from my feet and asked.

“Is that the class vice president’s pet?”

“No.”

Baek Ho-gun was holding the leash, but it seemed that he asked if Snare was my pet, because I and Snare looked extremely close.

But Snare wasn’t my pet, it was my angel.

When I was considering how to introduce Snare well, Mok Uram changed the topic as if something was on his mind more than Snare.

“Did You perhaps see Lena-nim on the way?”

“No. Why?”

At those words, Mok Uram said something unexpected.

“Lena-nim said that She was going to see Her family for a moment in front of the school, but She is a bit late.

Translator’s note: Kim Sinrok’s insistence on repeating Replay, so much so that he even forgets about Jo Uisin being at risk too, is truly an anomaly.

*shakes head* it’s hapenned a lot too. I don’t get why he insists on using it to himself. He knows that his replay is short. But that doesn’t give him an excuse to want to use the skill on him over and over again. He and Uisin really has so much similarities that it makes me cry.

    1. It doesn’t feel self-sacrificial though.

      1. Maybe in your eyes, but he’s willing to go through continually experiencing taunts, pain and death for whatever minuscule gains for others that might come of it. So I disagree

So the long tail they are looking for is probably the Woo tribe then, since I think I remember the Sa tribe trying to infiltrate the school by contracting with Bang Yunseop.

They wouldn’t use this method if they could get into the school easily :V

    idk maybe I’m wrong
